DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES OF THE SCHOOL
SCHOOL: The age for admission is 5 years. A requirement for this is a psychological test in order to find out the mental age, IQ and aptitude of the child. According to the IQ the child is placed in the most suitable class. We teach the children academics that are functionally relevant and useful in the daily life of the intellectually challenged child. It includes basic skills in reading and writing, time, money, activities of daily life, home management, social skills etc. An individual Education Programme is planned for each child after considering the ability, age, needs, social background and current level of functioning of the child. After the assessment, the teacher fixes the new goals for the child.
CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
Cultural activities have always been encouraged. The students have enjoyed much success in this area both within the school and outside. They display their talents at the school anniversary programme. Onam, Christmas and Easter are celebrated with all pomp and gaiety. Variety entertainments by the students, film shows, outings, picnics all form part of celebrations.
SPORTS
Sports is given due prominence. Every student of the institution is encouraged to take part in sports and they have bagged Silver and Bronze medals at Zonal, State and National level. It is worthy to note that Snehanilayam Special School won the "All Kerala Special School Basketball Tournament" conducted by YMCA, Ernakulam. The annual sports day meet is an occasion of great joy.
VOCATIONAL UNIT
Students are given training in woodwork in the vocational unit run by the school. They produce educational materials for nursery and KG Schools, pencil holders, key chains, letter holders and hangers etc. Due recognition is given to their skills and work by giving them a stipend in proportion to their work. This gives them a feeling of self worth. At present there are 25 boys in the vocational unit. Although light carpentry is the main skill imparted other skills are not excluded.
